London Tennis Art Deco Poster - Cédric des Lauriers
A stylised tennis player holds his racket diagonally; the large ochre-yellow banner "London Tennis" and the stands with a small clocktower silhouette frame the scene.
1920s: the Art Déco vocabulary of this poster, flat colour planes, a geometricised figure and stadium architecture, belongs to the tradition of sport and travel posters. Cassandre set the rules for geometric simplification and large colour blocks, and popularised condensed capital lettering evoking the vintage typographic register reproduced here in white on ochre. The inscription "London Tennis" visually references Wimbledon and the Centre Court. The image is signed by Cédric des Lauriers.
