1930s Art Deco Poster, New York Skyline at Night
The eye falls first on the dark arch of the suspension bridge, its fanned cables leading the gaze toward cobalt blue accents and yellow ochre touches along the horizon.
Brooklyn Bridge, inaugurated in 1883, was a favourite subject for artists seeking to dramatize the perspective toward Manhattan's skyline. The steel spire of the Chrysler Building, completed in 1930, is suggested here by an Art Deco skyscraper piercing the night. The small sans-serif text at the top and the numbers in the corners give the print the feel of a period edition.
