The eye settles first on the diagonal peloton, rendered in cobalt blue against terracotta and ochre yellow flat colour fields, punctuated by a typographic band in off-white capitals.

In the 1920s and 1930s, Art Deco posters simplified forms and used geometric motifs and limited palettes to suggest speed. The Tour de France and cycle manufacturers commissioned images combining peloton and local landscapes. Cedric des Lauriers is the author of this image.
